Basket liner sizing checklist for garden retailers

Buying guide · 7 min · Updated 18 October 2026

Liner fit is the purchase decision. Nominal inch names and measured centimetres are not always equivalent, so measure your frame and agree dimensions in the specification. A liner that is slightly too small leaves gaps, and one that is too large bunches and holds too little soil.

How to measure a hanging basket frame

  1. Measure the inside diameter across the top rim of the frame.
  2. Measure the depth from rim to base.
  3. Note the wire spacing and whether the frame tapers.
  4. Record the number of chains or hooks.
  5. Photograph the frame with a ruler beside it and keep the photo with the order record.

Bowl liners and wall liners

Bowl liners for hanging baskets are listed from 6 to 16 inch. Wall liners are listed in 8 and 12 inch. They suit different frames, so confirm which you are buying before you compare size and price. See the full range on the basket liners page.

Nominal size versus measured size

A liner sold as 12 inch is a nominal size. The measured diameter and tolerance should be written into the specification, and you should check it against your own frame. Sizes in this guide are supplier-stated nominal sizes and are confirmed per order.

Fit test before a carton order

  1. Order a paid fit sample for each size you will stock.
  2. Fit the liner into your frame and check the rim, the sides and the base.
  3. Plant and water one basket, and look at how the liner holds its shape when wet.
  4. Record the result, with a photo, and approve the size in writing.

Retail details that affect margin

  • Liners nest, so carton count changes freight per liner.
  • Replacement liners are a repeat purchase when buyers re-plant baskets each season.
  • Matching liners to your most common frame sizes keeps stock simple.

Before a carton order

Order a paid fit sample for each size you will stock. Eligible sample value can be credited against your first qualifying order. See basket liners, hanging basket sets and paid samples, then request a wholesale quote.

Quick answers

What liner size suits a 12 inch basket frame?

A liner sold as 12 inch is a nominal size. Measure the rim diameter and depth of your frame in centimetres, then confirm with a paid fit sample.

Do coir liners fit every wire frame?

No. Wire spacing, taper and depth change the fit, so test one frame per size before ordering cartons.

Can I order mixed liner sizes in one carton plan?

Mixed-size minimums are confirmed with the manufacturing partner in writing. Start with standard sizes and standard carton quantities.
