Guide
A coco peat substrate enquiry in eight details
A detailed brief reduces unsuitable quotations and makes sample evaluation more useful. Use these eight points for coco peat blocks, chips and blended media. Each one removes a question we would otherwise have to ask before quoting.
1. Crop and system
State the crop, the climate and whether you grow in soil, in a greenhouse or in protected cultivation. Nursery propagation, container growing and blending for resale all need different material.
2. Compressed and expanded dimensions
Say which dimensions you are quoting. Our stated 5 kg block is 30 × 30 × 15 cm compressed and about 65 litres expanded. A 1 kg block is 20 × 10 × 5 cm and about 15 litres, and a 650 g briquette is 21 × 10 × 5 cm and about 9 litres. These are supplier-stated figures and are confirmed per lot.
3. Substrate composition
Coco peat can be fine pith, chips, fibre or a blend. Tell us the particle structure you need, because it controls water holding and air space.
4. Processing
Give the EC range with units and the test method, and say whether you need washed, unwashed or buffered material. Read the EC guide if you are comparing quotes.
5. Water and air behaviour
If you have an acceptance test for water retention, air space or re-wetting, include it. If you do not, say so and we will suggest what to agree.
6. Packing format
Block, briquette or bag, colour, labels and any printing. Retail packs need approved artwork and content, which we coordinate on the retail packs page.
7. Pack configuration
Unit weight, number of units per carton, and pallet or floor-loaded preference. This changes freight cost more than most buyers expect.
8. Commercial scope
Quantity, delivery pincode or destination port, required date, and whether you want a sample first. For bulk coco peat, tell us whether the first order is a trial or a repeat requirement.
| Detail | Example of a complete answer |
|---|---|
| Crop and system | Tomato seedlings, greenhouse propagation |
| Format | 5 kg block, 30 × 30 × 15 cm |
| Processing | Washed, EC target [range] mS/cm by [method] |
| Moisture basis | As received, agreed per lot |
| Pack | [units] per carton, [cartons] per pallet |
| Scope | [quantity], destination [port or pincode], needed by [date] |
Fill in the bracketed values with your own requirements.
Common mistakes that slow a quote
- Asking for "low EC" with no units or method.
- Comparing a quote per kilogram with a quote per expanded litre.
- Leaving the destination out, so freight cannot be estimated.
- Not saying whether the block will be used as is or blended.
Send it
Send this through the coco peat block quote form, the export form or the wholesale form. To plan quantities first, use the block calculator, and see how to compare bulk quotes.
Quick answers
What if I do not know my EC target?
Say so, and tell us the crop and system. We will propose a grade and ask you to agree the EC units and test method before a sample.
Can I send another supplier quote as a reference?
You can share the specification parts, such as grade, size and pack, so we quote on the same basis. We do not ask for confidential cost sheets.
How many details do I really need?
Product or grade, quantity, destination and date are the minimum. The rest speeds up a relevant quote.
